Nadarska Cave

A small marble cave of two galleries, 55 metres in all, packed with stalactites and stalagmites. Entered only with a guide.

Nadarska Cave lies 30 km south of the town of Smolyan, close to the village of Mogilitsa. It sits in scenic country near the small settlements of Kremene and Nadartsi, with its entrance at 1,150 metres above sea level and views toward Mount Kom.

It is a small single-level cave formed of two galleries with a total length of 55 metres. Despite its modest size, it holds a rich variety of secondary formations: thousands of stalactites hanging from the ceiling and stalagmites rising from the floor, along with large stalactone columns and delicate draperies. The cave formed in marble through karst processes over a very long period.

It is not developed for tourism and has no lighting or built paths, so entry is only allowed with a guide, who also supplies the equipment. Reaching the entrance involves an 850-metre trail with about 100 metres of ascent.

Guided visits by prior arrangement. Group tours run 8 euro per person for groups of 5 or more (minimum fee 40 euro), including the guided talk and equipment.
